It's true, I didn't count the petals till after I posted the plugin, which includes a flame file with this set of parameters. It started as a random that had a flat transform. I tried the pRose3D plugin and got this. I remember setting the k=10 and thinking, "it will have 20 petals."
As I started editing the image, I counted, and there are 10 petals. I rotated the image to look straight down from the top, and there are 10 petals. If you read the wiki link about the "polar rose" figure, it will tell you that 10 petals is one figure this curve will NOT do!
Setting k=5 gives you 5 petals. Setting k=6 gives you 12 petals. All the tests during the writing of the plugin verified the information I had read. Yet, here it is! The setting is not some "in-between" setting either.
I can't explain it, but the petal shape is being drawn by the polar rose algorithm, and it should have 20 petals. So the magic must be in Apophysis! Or maybe it's an interaction with other variations?
If anyone figures out why this one has 10 petals, please write and let me know!
BTW, It doesn't count that there is a reflection with 10 petals because that is simply an upside down repeat of the main figure. Turn off the reflection and it still has 10 petals.
