Update: This show titled, Apophysis 3D Revealed, won 2nd place out of 18 entries in the Science category. Still waiting to find out more, but I believe the 1st place winner was another fractal show done by the friend who invited me to submit Apophysis fractals. I know that his show was quite a bit longer, so taking second place is really great!  :boogie:

On July 10th, 2009, Friday afternoon at the 35th annual convention of the National Stereoscopic Association (NSA) meeting in Mesa, Arizona, at the Phoenix Mesa Marriott Hotel, the above title will be the theme of the stereoscopic programs showing in the digital auditorium between 2 and 5 PM.     [link]

By special invitation from John Hart ([link]) who is the projectionist for the NSA, a special series of “Apophysis 3D Revealed” images will be part of that show, in full color and full stereoscopic 3D wonder on the theater sized screen. There are 44 Apo images that will show for a total of 6 minutes with original music composed and performed by Jaymee Dale [link] (CrystalVase).

Two high resolution projectors will simultaneously send both sides of each stereo-pair to the screen after passing through polarizing filters. The audience will be wearing special polarized glasses so they can see the results in full 3D. This is much easier than cross-viewing and polarized filters do not change the beautiful colors. If you can make it to Arizona it would be worth being there for this show, and for the many other fascinating stereo shows that take place between July 8 and 13.

The opportunity to send pictures to the NSA came at the last minute. There were many already discovered stereo parameters to choose from, but not enough computing power to get the job done. A call for help to the Apophysis Mailing List resulted in a number of helpful volunteers with fast computers. In two weeks the rendering was accomplished and the show edited into the final version. Many volunteers were also members of the dA community. BIG THANKS!

Additional thanks are due to the many passionate Apophysis programmers who have made unique and special plugins, or who have organized them and made them available on Fractal Resources. The show encompasses a broad range of what is possible in Apophysis 2.08 3D hack.

The experience of getting this project accomplished was the high point of the year for me! I think the show will be great, but nothing can touch what it was like working with so many Apo fans to make all 88 renderings in such a short time! Plus, it was very special getting the inspirational music track from CrystalVase [link] composed and recorded just for this program.

Watch for some of the show images to show up on these pages soon, along with explanations about how the stereoscopic parameters were adjusted for the projection environment.

Hi, and thanks for the comment. I think that 6 minutes is too little time to really see all there is to explore in 44 Apo images! I expect they will ask for it to be shown again on Sunday when there is time to repeat popular shows. Eventually I'll have time to expand the show material and specifically match it to a music track with precise timing. That's a lot of work though!
